We all use NETFLIX to stream a movie or a show, but have you ever notice it feels different when you use Netflix and when you use other OTT platform. If you have not felt any difference then get ready to notice it.

Whenever you search something on Netflix or you watch anything on Netflix you will find that your Netflix homepage will change as per what you are watching or searching. Suppose you are watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S on Netflix now because you are watching a Sitcom your feed will fill with sitcoms, comedy shows, romcoms and other feel good movies/shows. I observed this first when I started watching K-Dramas, my homepage suddenly filled with k-drama suggestions, after watching just one drama.
This happens because of Netflix’s Recommendation Algorithm, this algorithm is build in such a way that,
- Whenever you watch anything, the recommendation system will help you find a show or movie to enjoy with minimal effort and fill your homepage with the shows/movies of same genre, categories, actors, release year, etc..
- They rank the titles in a way that is designed to present the best possible ordering of titles that you may enjoy.
- The most strongly recommended rows go to the top of the page and the most strongly recommended titles start on the left of each row and go right.

This helps them to keep us on our screen for a longer period of time and makes us watch more because whenever you open the app you will find the recommendations related to what your watching.
Whereas on other platforms the homepage remain same, no matter what you watch, it will not personalize your homepage. This kind of Algorithm can be seen in Spotify too, where albums are formed as per your listening.
So, now you know what makes you sit in front of Netflix for so long.
